During the Vita's short run on the market, Sony developed a console version of the handheld to go alongside of it on store shelves. This was a weird system however since it couldn't play a lot of games and even had a hard time with certain streaming apps. Sony only supported the device for about a year in the US making it more of a market failure than the Vita handheld itself. Fortunately hackers have been able open up the system even incorporating a white list for most games to now be compatible with the system.
