After initially revealing its plans for a remote gaming device back in May, Sony has released the PlayStation Portal, formerly known as Project Q. The device is essentially a portable extension of your PlayStation 5, as it can't play games natively. More detailed information can be found below.
PlayStation Portal is essentially a glorified remote play machine. Sony previously confirmed that the device will use Wi-Fi to stream games from the PS5 console. Yes, that means you need to have a PS5 to play games on PlayStation Portal. As long as your PS5 Wi-Fi connection and the Wi-Fi where you play are solid, you shouldn't have any problems playing on your PDA.
Since Bluetooth isn't available on the portal, you won't be able to use any wired headphones/headset on the shelf with it. That being said, it has several solutions for audio. First, it has a 3.5mm audio jack, so you can use wired headphones with it. Another audio solution is dual built-in speakers. The third option is Sony's new hardware, which uses the new PlayStation Link connection standard. These are Pulse Elite headsets and Pulse Explorer wireless headphones.
In terms of specifications, the Portal features an 8-inch LCD screen that can stream games at 1080p 60 FPS. The built-in controller is essentially a Sony DualSense with all its features like haptic feedback. It uses a USB-C port for charging, and as mentioned above, has a 3.5mm audio jack. Details about the processor and battery are still kept secret.
No release date or pre-order date has been announced at this time, but the console will cost $199 each time it launches.
