If you didn’t know, gaming has been around for a while. The advent of 3D graphics and the ensuing transition into modern gaming only describes around 25 years of the medium’s history. As you might expect, countless consoles have been made and released by countless manufacturers. Most of them, judging by the numbers, don’t do so well, so it wouldn’t be hard to pick five consoles out of the air you aren’t familiar with. This is why we’re sticking to recent history, and barring one of the five, which came out in the 1990s, all of the consoles we’re going to talk about came out in the last decade.
Just who are our five illustrious listicle contenders? Glad you asked. We’ve got the Phillips CD-i; the Nintendo Wii Mini; the famed Ouya; the Sony PlayStation TV; and the GPD Win. If you don’t know much about these, don’t worry. If you do, worry a little bit, but still watch. Definitely.
Now, even if you have heard of some of these consoles, in passing, once or twice, make no mistake: We’re going to get into what these consoles did right, wrong, and ultimately, why they didn’t make it in the market. You didn’t click on BuzzFeed Gaming, we promise. You will come away having learned something, or your money back!
